Soldier of Conscience Sentenced to Seven Months
Spc. Mark Wilkerson, 23, who surrendered at Fort Hood, Texas, in August, pleaded guilty to desertion and missing troop movement Thursday and was sentenced to seven months in military prison. Wilkerson said he decided to go AWOL because his conscientious objector status was denied.
