Fury as government inspector approves phone mast close to Birmingham school

GOVERNMENT planning chiefs have sparked anger after they over-ruled city councillors in allowing a phone mast to be built close to a Birmingham school.
The city’s planning committee turned down the proposal by phone giants O2 on the grounds of health risks for youngsters at Cockshut Hill School in Sheldon.
But inspectors reversed the decision last month following an appeal and will allow the 12.5-metre mast to be built yards from the perimeter of the school’s grounds.
Councillors who campaigned against the mast and education leaders said they are disappointed at the ruling.
