Momentum running high

These articles based on tonight's Panorama - Sir William Stewart calling for a review of WiFi in schools.

I heard it on my LOCAL radio station this morning, I have had phone calls to say it is on breakfast TV and two nation papers are carrying stories.

The wording on my local radio station was "Sir William Stewart, Head of the Health Protection Agency, is calling for an urgent investigation into Wi-Fi"

A phone caller to me said that TV is reporing that Wi-Fi is 3 times more powerful than phone masts. Another said it was the second most important news story.

On Saturday I managed to get a message out about electro hypersensitivity on the local radio phone - in, during a debate about smoking, to raise awareness. It would help if we got the message out at every opportunity and turned whatever subject mentioned to the message of the harm these new technologies cause. Letters or phone -ins on a regular basis would work. I know it isn't easy to do this but we have few other choices.

The Radio presenter on Saturday had never heard of electro hypersensitivity. As I spoke of what I can no longer do and how it affects me she was quite concerned and said she would watch Panorama.

On days like this I really wish I could watch TV!

Airlines look at mobile phone boarding passes

Soon there will be no escape.....

Martin

https://www.computing.co.uk/2164144

Electronic barcodes to replace magnetic strip boarding passes by 2010 Dave Friedlos, Computing, 14 Sep 2006 BA planes

By 2010 UK airline passengers could be checking in and boarding flights using an electronic barcode transmitted to their mobile phone, industry experts predict.

Airlines including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are considering mobile technology as an alternative to traditional magnetic strip-based boarding passes.

International Air Transport Association (Iata) spokesman Eric Leopold says barcode boarding passes, both printed and on mobile phones, will replace magnetic strip-based boarding passes.

‘We believe some UK airlines will have mobile phone check-in capability by 2008, and magnetic strip boarding passes will be replaced by 2010,’ he said.

‘The biggest challenge is installing infrastructure capable of detecting a barcode.’

The technology is already in place at some international airports. At Tokyo and Peking, passengers register their fingerprint for security purposes and a barcode acting as the boarding pass is sent directly to their phone.

However, some airlines are sceptical about the practicalities.

‘Mobile phone check-in is something we are interested in, particularly as the majority of passengers have access to a mobile phone,’ said a BA spokeswoman. ‘However, a few issues need to be resolved, such as standardisation of mobile phone technology.’

Virgin Atlantic ecommerce project manager Lisa Rogers says the airline is also looking into mobile boarding passes, but has no firm plans to implement it.

Ryanair IT director Brona Kernan doubts the technology will be widely adopted in the UK.

‘Mobile phone check-in is more convenient for passengers but not for airlines,’ she said. ‘All we would be removing is a paper ticket that the passenger prints themselves anyway.’

Fluorescent Light Bulb Warning

by Rosalind Peterson

The outside label on most fluorescent light bulbs does not carry this hazard information leading the public to believe that these bulbs are safe and that they do not need special recycling as hazardous wastes. And the outside label does not let you know that used bulbs should be placed in containers where they can’t be broken prior to disposal......

Symptoms of Wi-Fi Installations

We've been challenged to divulge some real, personal, case evidence of health problems arising from Wi-fi (predominantly in schools) as a result of our Press Release on Wi-fi.

I have seen some in past weeks, but if you can give your stories of children with nose bleeds, Teachers who can't work, etc. etc. I'd be much obliged.

I'll compile them and CC the reply to the list - it's for our mates at the BBC (Biased Broadcasting Corporation) as some people used to call it - so we don't want to disappoint do we?

For example:-

1. I have an acquaintance who used to get headaches when he was using Wi-fi, his kids were always ill with colds, but now doesn't since he had it removed plus his kids are in better health, 2. I have a neighbour who constantly was ill whilst Wi-Fi was in the house - now it's been turned off she is fine.

etc.

Thanks!

Adrian

Attached are the D Fox and Robert Thinker experiences - you probably have these already :)

Gary

To Whom It May Concern

In the summer of 2003 I installed a wireless modem for Broadband in my home. Over the following weeks I and my family showed a variety of symptoms, which only vanished when the modem was removed. In my case, lethargy was predominant. Returning to school in September 2003 I discussed the issue of wireless transmitters with my Headmaster. At this point the school had no wireless network installed. At the beginning of 2004 plans were announced to introduce this into different parts of the school. When my Headmaster asked me to move my teaching room into a block designated for maths and computing, he reassured me that all computer connections would be hardwired to prevent any adverse affects on me.

On this understanding I began to teach in the block from September 2004. Within three weeks I began to feel tired, my concentration was poor and after five weeks I felt as though I was losing my mind. My wife bluntly told me that she thought the computer department were using wireless transmitters. Next day I confronted the computer technician, who told me that the wireless transmitters had been switched on at the start of the school year. Unbeknownst to me I was working for 8 hours a day bathed in the same radiation that had made me ill the previous summer. When I brought this to the attention of my Headmaster, he was stunned. I don't think that he had believed me up to that point. He kept saying to me, "But you couldn't have known it was switched on, could you?" No, I didn't. That's precisely my point. On his orders the transmitters were switched off, my fatigue passed and concentration was restored.

I am a teacher with 32 years experience, having obtained a First Class Honours Degree in both mathematics and physics from Cambridge. I am in excellent health. I do not even know the name of my current GPs, it's been so long since I had to call on their services. I am not a Luddite, but I do not ignore the evidence of my own experience, or that of others. This is disparagingly referred to as "anecdotal", by those with a vested interest in promoting the sale of these technologies. I prefer to call it commonsense. Mobile phone technology and wireless modems damage the health and well being of some members of our community. I do not believe it is fair to students, or employees, in a school to expose them to such risks. The only people, who will suffer from not using wireless connections are the manufacturers and educational establishment which promote them.

If the precautionary principle had been followed in the last century, many of our countrymen would not be suffering the crippling effects of asbestos related illness. Doubtless any questions about the safety of asbestos were also dismissed as unfounded.

Yours Sincerely

John Fox

Below is a message from Robert Thinker recording peoples reactions just TWO DAYS after Oakland Countywide wireless system went live

I took a "Quick" health poll today on our street since Wireless Oakland went live.. I took 6-7 walks today and managed to talk to about half the neighbors on the street, and of those, a majority seem to be having symptoms since the system fired up. Of the 16 neighbors I spoke with, 11 of them had a "Bad Headache" today, most of them seemed to blame something else like "Allergies" or "Drinking last night". One thing I noted, another neighbor said his headache is so bad tylenol isn't improving it.

I asked the lady 2 doors down about her experiences over the last 2 days, and she mentioned her infant is refusing to take naps in her own room (at the front of the house), but if she takes the infant into their bedroom (back of house), the infant will sleep. She said it is particularly troublesome and they've never noticed this before. I stopped to talk to a real estate agent showing a house on the street, and asked him if he has had any health symptoms since arriving to show the house, and he said "Yes, I got a terrible headache shortly after I arrived.".

An important aspect here is when I was chatting with them is this started exactly at the time the Wireless Oakland system went live in the city. It seems every third block there is a dual antenna system mounted on the light poles with tag numbers on them. Another interesting fact is that these were installed between 9PM-1AM at night. The lady down the street that has her house in front of one said she noticed them "Hurriedly" installing the antenna system at midnight a few days ago.

If this is such a great thing for the city, and an important thing that they think all of us will want, why are they not advertising it? Why are they installing the systems at night when people won't be out to see them? Why are they referring any and all questions on the matter to their attorney? What are they trying to hide here? Clearly we're being subjected to reckless experimentation on our biology under the guise of technology to help the county to expand and emerge as a tech mecca.

Regards,

Robert Thinker

But here are my case histories so far:

How I got rid of my phone and cured my child's sickness.
From Christine Garnier. (Jersey Mast resistance group JMMCG 8/12/06
A MONTH ago I went to a meeting to find out more about mobile phone masts. I went away and looked at information for myself, because I decided there may be a risk.

I kept on looking.

I came across numerous articles about digital cordless telephones stating that these were more dangerous than mobiles and that they were like having a mobile phone mast in your house as they continue to emit radiation while they are not in use (see https://www.tetrawatch.net/science/dect.php for one example).

I decided to pull the phones out. I had had cordless phones for almost two years, and I live in a very small place, but I was very shocked to find that within 48 hours my son and I were feeling much better than we had felt for the last few months.

The feeling of pressure in my head stopped, I no longer had aches in my joints, and both of us lost the feelings of nausea, tiredness and irritability.

My son used to wake crying every night. He now sleeps through.

And whereas he used to complain of feeling sick in the mornings, he now eats a good breakfast. He has become a different child.

Now my symptoms could be psychosomatic, but his cannot. He is six.

If someone came to me with a million pounds on the condition that I lived with those phones in my home, I would not do it.

This exposure to radiation I can control. I cannot control the proximity of masts to my home or my child's school because someone else is telling me they are safe. What choice do I have here?

14 Grouville Arsenal, Rue Don, Grouville.

And, from John Kelley in Limerick Ireland i live in ireland and since i suffered pain using wifi broadband in my home, i have also felt ill near 3g masts. these masts have only been put up recently in my area (limerick). i complained to the government, but they are in the pockets of the mobile phone companies who set up these 3g masts! one minister on the irish communication regulator board (comreg) was given an executive\'s box ticket to a major irish football game by VODAFONE! he had the cheek to say this wasn\'t a conflict of interest! 17th sept 2006

Electric Cabaret

There's a great anti mobile article in this months Ecologist with a chance to email comments:

https://www.theecologist.org/archive_detail.asp?content_id=685

Gary

Don't let radiation run riot

Two items in Brighton's local press.

First one is Sarah's letter which appears in this months Brighton "Whistler" newsletter, and which also appeared in the Sussex Argus and Kemptown rag a few weeks back:

"I was very surprised to read in The Argus 3/3/07 that the new eco flagship Brighton library has installed DECT (digital cordless) phones on every floor. People seem not to realise that the base unit of these phones emits microwave radiation all the time whether or not one is on a call. Both DECT and Wifi use the same technology as mobile phone masts. The intensity inside the library will be the same or higher than from a phone mast outside. There is evidence coming to light that these systems are less than safe. The frequency is the same as used in a microwave oven. The Times recently covered the fact that schools which are also installing Wifi are having to dismantle it at the request of parents and teachers who experience serious adverse health effects. Librarians in the USA are resigning over this issue. There is a lot of research into the effects and many people made ill from exposure to the radiation emitted by these systems as highlighted on the Richard and Judy show. It is possible to cable in computers for internet access. Wifi is not necessary. Info can be found from https://www.mastsanity.org" .

Second one in todays Sussex Argus readers letters from a "Graham Chainey" headed "Don't let radiation run riot". Extracts:

"A growing number of people - up to three per cent of the population already - suffer from electromagnetic hypersensitivity, which can be a highly disabling condition"

"Surrounded by gadgets and equipment in our homes and offices, we live amid an invisible but all-pervasive electrosmog. No one knows what this may do to us in the long term"

"In recent years we have been bombarded with mobile phone radiation. Every company apparently has to have its own network of masts"

"And now this fad for wi-fi. Schools have rushed to instal the system, so convenient for internet access. Whole cities are installing it, so people can use their laptops wherever they go."

"I believe if the radiation from these systems was made visible, they would all be banned."

"I would beg those considering city wide wi-fi to think again"

Send letters to letters@theargus.co.uk . When none of the letters sent by MS members were published several weeks ago, the editor told me they were too technical and to keep them short.

No one knows the real risks of Wi-Fi?

A professor at Bristol University has called for an inquiry into the dangers of Wi-Fi wireless internet technology.

‘The research hasn’t been done. Therefore we cannot assume that there are no effects,’ Professor Dennis Henshaw, professor of human radiation at Bristol University told the Independent on Sunday (IoS).

‘I would be in favour of an inquiry into the dangers of Wi-Fi,’ he continued. ‘This technology is being wheeled out without any checks and balances.’

Concerns over the health effects of the electromagnetic fields generated by Wi-Fi devices are beginning to mount following news that the chairman of the Health Protection Agency, Sir William Stewart, has called for an official investigation.

On Sunday, the IoS revealed that Professor Lawrie Challis, the head of the Government’s committee on mobile phone safety, has warned children against placing Wi-Fi enabled laptops on their laps.

Professor Alan Preece, also from Bristol University, urged caution:
‘No one is really aware of what we are dealing with,’ he said. ‘The Department for Trade and Industry needs to take the lead and do some investigation.’

Comments

Dr Tim Norris- 30/04/2007 19:51:54 Until circa year 2000, I had never experienced tinnitus. I was late in buying a mobile telephone. Each time I used it, I felt nausious. I made a miskake of using the mobile telephone continuously for circa 20 minutes; it seemed during the conversation that there was much bakground noise - the problem was that the noise continued after the call was terminated. My life was plagued with severe tinnitus and headaches for at least two years thereafter. Special medication helped (Seretonin uptake inhibitors) but still I ahve some background tnnintus. The tinnitus level now rises as soon as anyone activcates their mobile telephone in close proximity to me (i.e. nearer than 5 metres). Mobile telephone technology and similarly mobile telephones are not safe technology. Many years ago, no-one question the health risks of smoking - now it is a known health risk - just wait, mobile telephones and such like will sometime in the future also be correctly recognized as the health risk they really present. By that time, most of the Worlds population will have been irradiated. less

"I ask that all schools use wires not wireless"

Letter to MP from Councillor, Merton

Subject: I sent this to Stephen Hammond, MP

Dear Stephen

The dangers of mobile phones when children use them are well documented by the govt. and the Chief Medical Officer advises against usage. Essentially the bone structure of children is not completely developed and therefore electro-magnetic waves affect the brain tissues in particular (also affects 500,00 adults in UK). A 24 / 7 Wi-Fi cloud emits the same level of electro-magnetic waves as using a mobile phone does when used for a few minutes a day. Wi-Fi in schools is akin to having a phone mast in the school grounds and must be stopped immediately. Unlike the use of mobile phones (and other risks like smoking) children are given a choice. With Wi-Fi they are not. Whilst engineers argue that there is no proof that Wi-Fi causes medical problems, the facts are different. Engineers are not expects and their advice should be ignored. The govt. has not accepted the arguments of Bio-Physicists but this will change as more medical problems become more apparent. Schools in Merton like Ursuline are installing a wireless ‘cloud’ offering wireless connectivity across the whole of the school. The range will go well beyond the school affecting wireless-free properties including the Hall School, Wimbledon next door. This is wholly unacceptable. My children go to the hall and I do not want them to be exposed to dangerous electro-magnetic waves. All schools should have to sign a form stating that they believe that Wi-Fi systems are safe for all children. Pressure groups are stepping up their action against Wi-Fi in schools as reports if illness rises. The groups will be asking schools to sign a document stating that they believe their wireless networks are safe. The groups know that schools won’t sign and will use this as a debating point and potentially a legal battle. I think it far better that that we nip this potential legal fight in the bud now. I ask that all schools use wires not wireless. The cost is limited and makes safety the first priority. Please let me know your opinions on this.

COUNCIL GAFFE SEES MOBILE MAST ERECTED

https://tinyurl.com/2azhja

A Telephone mast has been put up in Llanelli even though planning permission was refused.Council planning officers took too long to tell O2 about the rejection - and the telephone company built the mast regardless.

Swansea Road residents are furious.

Town and county councillor Bill Thomas said: "Residents objected to the plans for a mast in Swansea Road as they were worried it was too close to local schools.

"They went to work one morning and found it there when they came back.

"They are furious and shocked, they feel as if their opinion just doesn't matter to the council."

The telephone company first submitted plans for a 15-metre mast in June, which were rejected by Carmarthenshire Council.

In November, an application was made for a 12.5-metre mast.

Six letters of objection expressed fears it was too close to Penygaer and Ysgol Dewi Sant schools and residential properties.

There were also health and safety concerns.

Carmarthenshire Council's planning department refused the plans, but failed to meet a 56-day deadline to notify O2.

Carmarthenshire Council head of planning Eifion Bowen said: "The application was for prior approval and is unlike ordinary planning applications as approval is deemed to be granted after a 56-day period.

"The agent was informed of this decision during a telephone conversation either on November 30 or the following day, and formal notification was sent out within the 56-day period.

"O2 was of the view that the notice received was incorrectly worded and that the revised notice subsequently sent out was outside the specified period.

"The authority is disappointed the matter progressed in full knowledge of its concerns.

"The authority is reviewing its processes."

O2 community relations manager for Wales Angela Johnson said: "The planning law stipulates that if we do not receive notice in 56 days then we have deemed consent to put a mast up.

"We need the mast there for coverage for the area.

"The masts are very low powered radio transmitters.

"The World Health Organisation has looked at research and come to the conclusion that there is no evidence of any health risk."

Reader comments

So O2's Angela Johnson assures us that the World Health Organisation happy for them to plant their harmful radiation emitting phone masts next to schools and housing. Well lets's see........ The World Health Organisation?s Radiation Health Protection Committee is responsible for the subject of Cellular Technology and Powerlines health effects. This committee?s eight representatives are all mobile phone operator ex employees. The chairman of this committee, Dr Michael Repacholi has recently resigned under a cloud after it was revealed that he received 150,000 dollar a year directly from the cellular phone industry for meetings and travels. This means he broke the rules of the WHO which bars receipt of money directly from the industry. In addition Dr. Repacholi is documented to have invited power industry representatives in order to review scientific work and participate actively in evaluating health standards of electromagnetic fields emitted by power lines. The names of the power line industry representatives are all documented. Dr. Repacholi systematically downplayed and ignored for years many scientific findings with one common ground: the findings which show that the cellular technology is not safe and cannot be freely distributed without a health price for the world population. Dr. Repacholi?s sharp bias threatens world health. He now works for the nuclear industry and was recently seen on a Panorama programme on nuclear power telling viewers that small amounts of radiation does you good!
